In March 1944, the post office of Šibenik urgently needed 3.50 Kn stamps (standard letter postage), but they were never delivered because it was war time.
Therefore, the post office board decided to use numerous remaining Italian definitive stamps from the 1929 issue and overprint it with the new value and the country name.
Overprint was done by a local print company in Šibenik.
